“Did you bring communion?” she asked me. Yes, I had made a quick stop at the grocery store on the way to her house, picking up a baguette and a half gallon of grape juice. It was clear that we both felt better prepared for what we were heading into.
With eight kids (at that time) between the two of us, my friend and I set aside Tuesday mornings at 9am to pray and seek God together. We focused on surrendering, praying for our husbands and children, and just being available for whatever God wanted. Soon, He began sending people our way, in different degrees of brokenness and pain, to pray for and learn to take care of. Through all of it, our hearts began expanding and we became more free from religion. The Lord renewed our understanding of practices, like laying hands for healing, baptism in water, baptism in the Holy Spirit, and taking the Lord’s table. While it was simple enough to open a Bible or fill a bathtub, having the elements on-hand required more forethought. We sometimes resorted to using water (instead of juice) and crushed crackers (from transporting in my purse). Thus, the idea for TrueFood was born.

My husband and I started TrueFood Communion in 2020 because we believe that the Lord’s table should be as accessible as Jesus is, Himself. We enjoy taking communion as a family at home with our five boys, and have seen the power of God work in people’s lives through this simple practice of faith. Our close friends, joined us in the journey to making this vision into a reality. Along the way, we have learned a lot and have been connected with some amazing people who have been strongly impacted by the vision of TrueFood. We hope to ultimately launch three products for different contexts -- for personal/travel use, for family/small groups, and for larger gatherings.
